What is LAN (Local Area Network)

What is meant by LAN

LAN also known as Local Area Network.

LAN means inter-connection of host devices such as computers over short distances.

LAN can capable of supporting large bandwidth and high speed internet supply.

A Local Area Network can be used for two to three users [For example, network of small office].

Also LAN can be used for more than hundred users. [For example, network of large office].

Using LAN connection, we can connect or share resources such as a printer or network storage.

LAN traffic can be kept controlled using bridges and switches.

Local Area Network (LAN) can be used as wired LAN or wireless LAN (WLAN).

WLAN is mostly preferable because of its flexibility and cost. Using WLAN, you can connect number of smart phones, tablets and laptops.

How to set up a wired LAN


Follow these steps to begin setting up the network:

Step 1 : Click Start and then click Control Panel.

Step 2 : Under Network and Internet, click choose Homegroup and sharing options.



Step 3 : In the Homegroup settings window, click Change advanced sharing settings.



Step 4 : Turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing.
